"No divorce case is the same, and no client wants to feel that they are just another file on their attorney’s desk.  Each of my clients deserves to feel respected, informed, and secure with knowledge during the difficult and stressful times that surround their divorce or post-divorce matters."

Education
DePaul University College of Law, Juris Doctor (2006)
University of Notre Dame, Bachelor of Arts (2003)

Karen Schetz has been with the law firm of Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP since 2006, and has practiced solely matrimonial law since that time. Prior to joining the firm, Karen earned her law degree from DePaul University College of Law, and her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Notre Dame. Karen uses her degree and interest in psychology in her every day practice, taking the time to understand each client and their family dynamics as they go through the divorce process. She believes in settling cases out of court where possible in order to prevent further family strife and to conserve family resources, but is ready and willing to litigate her cases when a settlement cannot be reached that is in her clients’ best interests.

Karen is experienced in all areas of matrimonial law, including child custody, division of property, maintenance and child support, tracing of financial claims, financial discovery, post-decree custody and support issues, and the drafting of pre- and post-nuptial agreements. Her cases typically involve clients with complex estates, and she has represented various business owners, professionals, and their spouses. She has litigated cases in Cook, Lake, and DuPage counties.

Karen was nominated by her peers to be an Illinois Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in 2012, 2013 and 2016-2018.
