Brittany Heitz Goodlett is a Partner at Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP, representing business owners, professionals, and their spouses in complex divorce and family law matters. Her diverse practice includes matters with closely held business interests, international parenting disputes, complex financial and support issues, and the disposition of pre-embryos after a separation or divorce.
Widely recognized for developing creative solutions in challenging cases, Brittany draws on her experience in both the courtroom and alternative dispute settings to tailor her approach to each client’s priorities and individual circumstances. Brittany believes that mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution can often provide clients with the most effective and discreet forum for resolving family law disputes. She has developed a robust mediation practice and skillfully guides clients through the alternative dispute resolution process, using pragmatic negotiation to pursue solutions aligned with their priorities.
When an agreed resolution is not possible, Brittany is an experienced and fierce litigator prepared to advocate for her clients in court. Whether in court or at the bargaining table, she brings a deep understanding of sophisticated financial matters, including valuation of closely held business interests, complex executive compensation plans, and complex tracing of non-marital assets.
Well-regarded by judges, opposing counsel, and the legal community, Brittany was appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court Family Law Simplification Task Force, where she contributes her perspective and experience to improving access to justice for all family law litigants. Brittany was selected as a 40 Under Forty Illinois Attorney to Watch by Law Bulletin Media for 2020. She was also named among the Top 10 Illinois Women Emerging Lawyers and Top 100 Illinois Emerging Lawyers by Leading Lawyers for 2020, and she has been recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyers “Rising Star” since 2016, and has been named to The Best Lawyers in America® since 2023.
Brittany began her legal career as a law clerk for Schiller DuCanto & Fleck while earning her law degree from DePaul University College of Law and became one of the fastest attorneys at Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP to be elevated to partner. In addition to serving as the Symposium Editor for the DePaul Law Review while in law school, Brittany was an extern for the Honorable Wayne R. Andersen, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (retired).
Committed to giving back to the community, Brittany provides pro bono legal representation for the underprivileged and has served as a guest speaker at her alma mater, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree focused on child development and family studies. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new travel destinations and spending time with her husband and three young children.
