Katherine Welz Herr is a family law attorney at Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP. Katherine is well-versed in all areas of family law, including complex financial and business matters. She is a strong advocate for her client’s personalized needs. She uses her strong analytical skills to develop cogent legal arguments on her client’s behalf.

Katherine began her legal career at Schiller DuCanto & Fleck, LLP as a law clerk in 2016, and was hired as an associate in 2018. Prior to joining Schiller DuCanto & Fleck, LLP, Katherine served as a judicial extern with the family law division of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit of Will County. Thereafter, Katherine served as a judicial extern to Justice Thomas L. Kilbride of the Supreme Court of Illinois. These experiences have allowed Katherine to hone her research and writing skills, and have made her an effective advocate in pleadings.

Katherine received her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law with a certificate in business law where she graduated cum laude. Katherine recognizes that an effective advocate in the courtroom must be well-versed not only in family law, but also in the rules of civil procedure, the rules of evidence, and other areas of the law relative to complex divorce cases. As a result, she has focused her studies on business law, taxation, and litigation rules and standards.

While at DePaul, Katherine earned CALI awards for earning the highest grade in the class for Constitutional Law and Legal Writing. Because of her high academic achievements, Katherine was named a member of DePaul Law Review. Further, as a student at DePaul, Katherine served as a Senior Research Assistant to Professor John Decker and was credited in the publication of Illinois Decisions on Search and Seizure and Illinois Criminal Law:  A Survey of Crimes and Defenses.
